On receipt of the brief, I set about finding information about the company to give me a better understanding of their vision and where they sit in the market.

WHO, WHY, WHEN & WHERE and WHAT? 〰️
I began to benchmark other fitness and weight management apps - specifically looking at the competition for conventions and best practice.
Benchmarking findings -
•Uncluttered screens and bite sized info – easy to see and read quickly – especially on a small screen.
•Chat box for interaction and help.
•Mentions links to NHS – promoting trust and confidence in the app.
•Appealing photographs and calm gradated background colour scheme.
•Friendly and personal intro to help put the user at ease. Humour used and bold text to emphases the goal.
•Cheerful / playful colours, shapes and icons
•Simple terminology
•Bold text headlines easy to see.
Existing EXi app – I scrolled through to become familiar with the home screen and few of the tabs.
Using my findings…
I began working through ideas to improve user engagement to include the following
Incentives / rewards - counter to show completed activities
Uncluttered screens and bite sized info – easy to see and read quickly – especially on a small screen.
Cheerful / playful colours, shapes and icons
Sketches, wireframes,
and hi fidelity prototypes
The brief
Design a feature to help improve user engagement with EXi’s users.
Solution
Insert a counter onto the homepage to indicate how many activities have been completed. The high contrast can easily be seen at a glance for people with accessibility needs. EXi users would earn points or rewards at milestones as an incentive to continue tracking exercises and using the app.
